Why Panama Healthcare

Panama Healthcare

Panama has become a popular destination for medical and dental treatments where foreigners can obtain major and elective medical and dental surgery for a fraction of what it would cost at home.

The U.S. presence in Panama from 1904 to end the end of 1999 created opportunities for Panamanians to be educated and trained in U.S. medical schools and famous clinics.  Many U.S. dentists and medical doctors who worked at the U.S. controlled Panama Canal Zone and in U.S. military hospitals remained in Panama to become citizens in order to continue their professions.  As a result of the U.S. influence, many medical doctors and dentists speak fluent English.

Panama is unique amongst all of the Central and Latin American countries because of the number of U.S. trained doctors and dentists.

Because Panama’s wages are much lower than in Canada, Europe, and the U.S., the fees charged by doctors and hospitals are reduced.

Medical tourism agencies report that the costs for typical dental and medical surgeries and hospitalization are 1/4 to 1/3 than in the U.S. and Europe.  The waiting time to set up surgeries is vastly shorter than in Canada.

Typical costs in Panama compared to the U.S. include:

• Facelift costs $2,500 in Panama compared to a minimum of $10,500 in the U.S.

• Breast lift costs $1,500 to $3,000 in Panama compared to $4,000 to $9,000 in the U.S.

• Glaucoma (per eye) costs $2,500 in Panama compared to $4,800 to $7,500 in the U.S.

• Hip replacement costs $5,500 in Panama compared to $33,000 to $57,000 in the U.S.
